This colorful piece of all natural Deer Creek fire agate rough measures approx. 1-1/16 inches x 7/8-inch x 5/8 inch (27 x 22 x 16 mm). It weighs 10.7 grams (53.6 carats), and shows areas of fiery bronze, red, orange and green colors. This piece of fire agate rough could be carefully cut into a high-grade gemstone or left in its present state as a great fire agate gemstone mineral display specimen. The bottom portion of this piece of rough consists of the original host rock and associated rhyolite matrix.
This piece of fire agate gemstone rough originates from Deer Creek, Arizona, which often produces fire agate gemstones that display vivid red, orange, green, purple and blue color variations. Pictures were taken indoors under lights and outdoors in sunlight while the stone was dry and then also wet to simulate a polish and best display the visible fire.
The colors found within fire agates are created by the Schiller effect, as found in mother-of-pearl and opals. It is caused by the alternating silica and iron oxide layers which diffract and allow light to pass which forms the interference of colors known as fire. This play of color requires good lighting for best display and the gems will often appear darker and/or brown colored in low light conditions.
This piece of gemstone rough is an all-natural stone and may be subject to the normal flaws as found in nature or as in the result of the hard-rock mining extraction process (small cracks, chips, etc).
